Mother-to-child-transmission (MTCT) interventions counsel and test pregnant women for HIV, and offer antiretroviral medications (ARVs; often nevirapine) to prevent HIV transmission to the infant. They often provide substitute feeding programs to prevent transmission which could occur via breast feeding.
