Vitekta (Elvitegravir)

Type of Drug: Integrase Inhibitor
Integrase inhibitors work by blocking an enzyme called HIV integrase that the virus needs in order to splice itself into human DNA.

Approved adult dosing

Vitekta 85 mg QD with: Reyataz 300 mg QD + Norvir 100 mg QD or Kaletra 400/100 mg BID

* Vitekta is also available in the coformulation Stribild, for patients who have never taken antiretroviral drugs.

Vitekta 150 mg QD with: Prezista 600 mg BID + Norvir 100 mg BID, Lexiva 700 mg BID + Norvir 100 mg BID, or Aptivus 500 mg BID + Norvir 200 mg BID

Notes on taking this medication

  • Take with food
  • Antacids, laxatives, mineral supplements, and other compounds that contain calcium, magnesium, aluminum, or iron can decrease levels of Vitekta if they are taken close in time to each other. Ask your provider whether or how you can take these compounds with Vitekta.

Side effects

  • Vitekta has not been studied during pregnancy; tell your medical provider if you become pregnant while taking this drug
  • Diarrhea, headache
  • Rash
