This database contains a unique, comprehensive listing of key HIV/AIDS, health and development statistics for 198 countries in 10 regions. HIV/AIDS is a complex pandemic that touches all aspects of life in heavily affected communities. Increasingly, those working to prevent the spread of the pandemic and to mitigate its impact
realize that they must address HIV/AIDS in a holistic, multi-sectoral manner. In recognition of this fact, HIV InSite has gathered data about a variety of sectors from a cross section of
international agencies and created a database where they can be easily sorted and compared. In addition to basic HIV prevalence and behavioral statistics, the database contains information on access to care and treatment, human development, population, the economy, general health,
sexual and reproductive health, and education. The purpose of this database is to assist policy makers to develop appropriate regional and country-level HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment programs. In particular it is hoped that,
with its ability to compare statistics across countries and technical areas, the database will assist with the design and evaluation of integrated development programs and
regional/cross-border HIV/AIDS projects. In addition, we hope that the database will be a useful tool for those monitoring country and regional progress on meeting stated HIV/AIDS
prevention, treatment, and care goals. |
