The Center for HIV Information (CHI) at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), which produces HIV InSite, is committed to protecting your privacy. We do not give, share, sell, or transfer the email addresses or survey responses of our visitors. We maintain this information on our servers for our internal processes and for compiling aggregate data about our site. Although we may disclose this data to our partners or sponsors, the aggregate data are not linked to personal information by which any individual person can be identified.

Cookies:

On your first visit to HIV InSite, a session cookie that uniquely identifies your browser is sent to your computer. A cookie is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a Web site. We use session cookies to improve the quality of our content and to better understand how visitors interact with us. These cookies are not linked to personally identifiable information and are never made permanent on your computer.

External links:

HIV InSite provides links to other Web sites as resources for our visitors. When you click on one of these links, you will be transferred out of HIV InSite and connected to the Web site you selected. Each of these linked sites maintains its own independent privacy and data collection policies and procedures. If you visit a Web site that is linked to HIV InSite, please consult that site's privacy policy before providing any personal information.

Web log files:

As do most Web site administrators, we use log files that record information such as Internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet service providers (ISPs), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and page navigation. We gather this information to track Web site visitor movement in the aggregate, and to gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. Our goal in gathering this information is to learn how our visitors are using our Web site.

Our free monthly eNewsletter and alert updates:

HIV InSite offers its own free monthly eNewsletter called Foresite as well as ARV Alert, an email notification containing breaking information on antiretroviral drug interactions and adverse effects. Visitors may subscribe at http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu/InSite?page=Subscribe. Subscribers may choose to unsubscribe at any time and information about doing so is located at the bottom of Foresite and ARV Alert.

Changes to our privacy policy:

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to our home page, this privacy statement, and other places we deem appropriate so our visitors are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
